Reporting a Crime

Any member of the community who is victimized by, observes, or has knowledge of a criminal action or other emergency should immediately report such action or emergency to the University Police Department. The Illinois State University Police Department maintains a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week police patrol and response operation. Citizens are encouraged to report all criminal and suspicious activity to the University Police Department. Criminal activity can be reported in person or by telephone by dialing (309) 438-8631 (voice) or (309) 438-8266 (TTY). Notification of crimes in progress or other emergencies please dial 9-1-1 or use of a nearby emergency bluelight kiosks.

Emergency Blue Lights

There are 28 emergency blue-light kiosks located throughout campus. These emergency call boxes can be used by simply pushing the large red button which automatically dials a dedicated phone number to the University Police Dispatch Center. Callers should be prepared to identify themselves and the location of the emergency. A police officer will be dispatched to the location of the emergency. Police responses to emergency calls are made by vehicular, foot, or mountain bike patrols.

In addition, there are emergency call boxes located in all parking decks that connect callers to the University Police Department dispatch center at the push of a button. If you desire to report a crime or information.

Information to Provide

Upon receipt of a call where fire or medical assistance is required, the appropriate agency is dispatched along with police. When dialing 911 for emergencies, be prepared to provide the following information: your name, what the problem is, location of the emergency, the victim’s location, suspect or suspicious activity, and the telephone number you are calling from. Remain on the line until the 911 police dispatcher advises you it is okay to hang up.
